Can you Recycle Old, Broken Small Appliances?

A GreenAdvisor user would like to know if you can recycle old, broken small applicances, like tea kettles, coffee makers and power tools – instead of taking them to the landfill.  It is a good question, if anyone has an answer, post it here.

It really depends on the area where you are from. I would suggest calling the largest municipal office in your area, and see what programs they have in place.

I had a food saver (it is one that vacuum seals your food) and I could not get it to vacuum anymore, but the seal part still worked. I kept it for about 6 months trying to find a place that would recycle it. I could not find anything and I even called our local recycling station, they point blank told me to throw it in the garbage! One day as I was walking past it, I decided I had tried hard and long enough, I was going to throw it out. As I was headed for the garbage pail with this item in hand, I thought why not put it on KIJI! I did and within a few hours I found someone who wanted it. Did not matter to them that the vacuum part did not work, they wanted to re-seal products at work! I gave it away and this worked for me!
